Hi Reader,
Sometimes this work can be tough.
Of course I want to be encouraging, but I also want to be honest.
I believe being honest is encouraging because it's kind. It's true. It's authentic.
So here it goes...
Here's the honest truth: A VBAC is not going to fall into your lap.
All along the way, you will have the opportunity to make choices to create the conditions that will put you on the road to VBAC.
When I think about my own VBAC journey, there are so many qualities that came up for me, but the first one is commitment.
I was willing to do whatever it took to leverage everything I could to ensure I would have a VBAC.
That meant, diving into the evidence.
That meant, listening to my intuition.
That meant, ignoring people who wanted to just tear me down.
That meant, doing what need to be done to make things happen.
That meant, stepping outside of my comfort zone.
Yes, there are things that I couldn't control.
But I could control how I showed up.
I could control the messages I told myself.
I could say to myself:
I could control the intentions I set:
I could control how I perceived the situation:
Yes, I was scared. But I kept taking the next step.
Every choice I made brought me closer to my goal.
I was not going to let my fear rule me. I was going to keep moving forward.
Through this mindset, I was able to have a VBAC.
But, you know, that sometimes stuff happens.
Sometimes a cesarean is needed.
Sometimes those in labor opt for another cesarean. For whatever reason.
I want to be clear: Those are not "failed VBACs." Those births, those babies, those women and birthing people had their own journey.
How you birth your baby is a morally neutral event.
Thus, VBACs aren't all "good" and cesareans aren't all "bad."
The question is: How do we choose to perceive it?
Tomorrow, I'll share with you more about how I now feel grateful for my cesarean.
Believe me, I never thought I would say that and truly feel it in my heart.
In the meantime, I want to make sure you know that right now you can save $50 off my consulting and "The Truth About VBAC™ for Families" bundle.
With this bundle, you not only have access to all the facts and information you need to make the right choice for you, and navigate all the smaller choices to have a VBAC, but you also get access to me.

Ok Reader, A few things... I was on the radio! 🎙️ this week's podcast interview questions? I was on the radio! If you tried to tune into my interview on Whole Mother Radio per the dates I gave you a couple weeks ago, sorry about that. The publishing calendar changed and it aired this past week. But, you can still listen to the whole thing here! The host Pat Jones and I talk about top VBAC myths, informed consent & responsibility, the power we all have, maintaining the fire for change, and so...
Hi Reader, I have so many parents who come to me because they are trying to have a VBAC. I want to offer you something. If you want a VBAC, try saying, "I'm planning a VBAC" or "I will labor after a cesarean" or even "I'm going to have a VBAC" rather than "I'm going to try." Do you feel the slight difference in those statements? The first three hold intention. Power. Strength. Clarity. The person saying them is someone who knows what they want. And every time that person says those words,...
Hi Reader, More good news... on June 1, 2023, the Governor of Iowa signed HF 265 which makes certified professional midwives (CPMs) legal and regulated... all while protecting VBAC. You can read the press release for more details, but I wanted to draw your attention to four aspects of this bill. First, it doesn't mention prior cesarean or prior uterine surgery. This is good because often when these histories are highlighted, it is to limit the scope of practice for CPMs. No call out equals no...
